Investigate and demonstrate dance technique and related protocols within a range of cultural contexts, including First Nations and Métis.
Indicators for this outcome
(a) | Refine and integrate the dance techniques needed to perform a particular dance type andstyle (e.g., ballroom as a type of dance including waltz, foxtrot or tango styles; ballet as a type of dance including classical or contemporary styles; powwow as a type of dance including grass or fancy styles; modern as a type of dance including Graham or contact improvisation styles; Indian classical type of dance including Bharatanatyam Kathak or Kathakali styles). |
(b) | Apply, with guidance, technique and strategies for safe execution of dance movements (e.g., lifts). |
(c) | Implement and lead warm-up and cool-down in dance class. |
(d) | Demonstrate body and spatial awareness while executing dance technique. |
(e) | Embody elements of dance and adapt to the changes and complexities of the dance making process. |
(f) | Apply, independently, body alignment specific to the selected dance type and style (e.g., Métis dance type including jigging or square dance styles, hip hop dance type including breaking or locking styles; powwow dance type including Grass or Fancy dance styles). |
(g) | Integrate technique associated with different dance types and styles to create new work. |
(h) | Demonstrate knowledge of techniques and protocols associated with First Nations dances. |
(i) | Explore Métis dances as forms of artistic expression and social connection in communities and research competitive dance (e.g., square dance clothing designs, Métis sash colours and designs and their meaning, the number of changes that can be done). |
(j) | Execute technique with precision in all dance types and styles studied. |
