This valuable book focuses on the theory and practice surrounding the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education. Reggio Emilia is a child-centred approach where children's curiosity about the environment inspires learning. The book includes descriptions of how two Canadian educators changed their classroom environment and instructional strategies after adopting the Reggio Emilia approach. It also addresses the role of the teacher in working with children from diverse backgrounds. For example, the author travelled to the Early Learning Centre in Regina to visit teachers who work mostly with First Nations students and learned how the Reggio Emilia approach has changed their practices. Authentic Childhood includes a table of contents, two appendices and an index.

This video explores how inclusive educators understand that the brain is part of the body and that children need to feel physically safe, comfortable, and regulated to learn. As such, an inclusive approach is fundamentally brain and body-based - not just because it supports individual children with physical or regulatory challenges but because it is appropriate for all young learners.

In this conclusion video, we explore how an inclusive program looks at families, staff, centers, and communities in the same way that it looks at individuals: everyone is working on something. Everyone has strengths, and everyone has challenges. Inclusion puts forward a vision of community, committed to knowing each other, valuing each individual's strengths, acknowledging and embracing challenges together. Inclusive early learning is an environment where sometimes individuals bend to the community, and sometimes the community bends to individuals.

This book presents nine inspirational stories of the individual experiences that Canadian educators from diverse early childhood settings have had with emergent curriculum and inquiry, as well as their adherence to the Reggio Emilia approach. The author describes emergent curriculum as follows: "In emergent curriculum, teachers plan in response to the groups' interests and concerns, and curriculum expands into genuine inquiry, as children and teachers together become participatory colearners who attempt to understand some aspect of real life." Emergent Curriculum in the Primary Classroom provides both soundly developed theory and practical examples. Included are a table of contents and an index.

This video explores how accommodations must be based on strengths and not on challenges or deficits. We can effectively support all children by helping them use their strengths to grow and develop. It is a cornerstone of inclusion to view families as capable and competent and to find the strengths in a family that can contribute to child and program success. In this way, you can see how inclusion stresses and promotes partnership and collaboration, and how a strength-based mindset and a problem-solving mindset support each other.

Proactivity changes how we view environments, materials, routines, and transitions. But more than anything, a proactive approach informs our relationships. It is a foundation for how we welcome and get to know children and families in our programs. It establishes how we set up ways of sharing information and partnering with families.
