Indicators for this outcome
(a) | Use movements and movement patterns to respond to stimuli from diverse sources such as stories, poems, observations, visual images, music, sounds, or objects. |
(b) | View and listen attentively to dance stimuli (e.g., poem, music, or visual image). |
(c) | Recall and retell, using own words, ideas related to the stimuli (e.g., the leaves made circle patterns across the road). |
(d) | Ask questions related to the stimuli to contribute to dance-making inquiry process (e.g., How could we move like the leaves making circle patterns in the wind?). |
(e) | Use movement patterns to represent own ideas and feelings. |
(f) | Use movements in many different ways in response to a given stimuli. |
(g) | Apply personal experience and imagination to express ideas in dance. |
(h) | Discuss and share movement and dance ideas with other students. |

Spontaneous Story with Jayden Pfeifer. Grades 1, 2, 3 & 4
Join theatre artist Jayden Pfeifer as we explore the skills of improvisation! Jayden will work with the students to exercise their improv muscles. Practice availability, listening, accepting, supporting, and creative expression in a supportive group environment. This active and spontaneous storytelling workshop will teach the elements of basic improv story structure. You will learn how to build narrative, invent fun and unique characters, and insert plot twists into your stories!

Stomp and Holler with Scott Richmond. Grades 1 & 2
Scott Richmond presents a series of original and classic songs to get you moving to the music. Students engage in active listening by responding to verbal, musical and visual cues. Patterns, actions and compositions are explored collaboratively through collective dance and vocal expression. In addition to dancing, moving and singing, students also act out some songs to help bring the stories to life.

Métis Jigging Part 2. Grades 1 & 2
Krystle Pederson is a traditional jigger and Métis dance instructor. In Métis Jigging Part 2, Krystle talks about different styles of fiddle music and how jigging steps are incorporated into other styles of dance. Through demonstrations and practise, students build on the skills and knowledge gained in Part 1. Krystle introduces new jigging steps with an emphasis on travelling and working with a partner. She also demonstrates and shares her belief in the importance of community and working together.
PLEASE NOTE: Métis Jigging Part 2 builds on skills and knowledge from Part 1, which aired in 2015. Teachers should review Part 1 and its accompanying activities with their students before commencing Part 2.
