Indicators for this outcome
(a) Identify Spanish-speaking countries (e.g., Spain, Argentina, Mexico and Nicaragua) in the world.
(b) Research significant historical and contemporary events (e.g., Aztec and Inca empires, independence from Spain and Portugal, construction of Panama Canal, Cuban and Mexican revolution) that affect Spanish communities.
(c) Describe the traditional and cultural contributions of Spanish-speakers (e.g., Pablo Picasso, Antonio Banderas, Rigoberta Menchu, Manuela Saenz and Isabel Allende).
(d) Compare dialectical pronunciation and vocabulary differences within Spanish and in standard usage in other parts of the world.
(e) Discuss the economic impact of Spain within Europe and on other countries around the world.

Inquire about Spanish culture and heritage (e.g., the arts, celebrations, community, traditions, language, history and food) in various parts of the world by:

  • reading, listening to or viewing tourist information or facts about Spanish-speaking countries or regions around the world;
  • researching Spanish festivals, events and organizations (e.g., La Tomatina, Día de los Muertos, San Fermin and Santiago de Cuba); and,
  • investigating cultural places or historic sites (e.g., Teotihuacatan and La Sagrada Familia).
(g) Examine and compare elements of Spanish culture and heritage (e.g., food, the arts, celebrations, community, traditions, language, history) in various parts of the world.
(h) Investigate the impact of Spanish communities’ geographical locations on their local culture and ethnic diversity.
