Develop and use various strategies to enhance the meaning of learning and communication.

(There is an appropriateness to asking questions when someone is speaking, and therefore essential that unless you know the language there are cultural protocols to follow - many of these indicators are practised in prayer.)

Indicators for this outcome
(a) Decide in advance what to listen for.
(b) Distinguish relevant information from irrelevant information when trying to understand a speech or difficult conversation.
(c) Use grammatical knowledge to correct errors or to improve language.
(d) Use reference materials and language speakers to help in clarifying a message.
(e) Seek opportunities to use or hear the language.
(f) Make personal notes when hearing useful language.
(g) Identify and justify the evidence on which inferences are based.
(h) Use graphic representations (e.g., word maps, mind maps, diagrams, charts) to make information easier to understand and to remember.
(i) Place new words or expressions in a context to make them easier to remember.
(j) Use key content words or context clues to follow an extended text.
(k) Listen selectively, based on purpose.
(l) Demonstrate awareness of learning through direct exposure to Nakoda by asking questions when someone is speaking.
(m) Demonstrate how strategies may assist with texts containing unknown elements.
(n) Identify problems that may hinder successful completion of a task and seek solutions.
(o) Participate in group problem-solving processes.
(p) Repeat and use new words and expressions occurring in conversation with others.
(q) Ask for clarification or repetition to aid understanding.
