Apply knowledge of American Sign Language, in a familiar and unfamiliar situations and for a
variety of purposes to receive information, extend knowledge of the world, achieve objectives and for
enjoyment.
Indicators for this outcome
(a) | Demonstrate comprehension of the main idea presented in a signed text and explain how the language techniques chosen were effective in conveying the intended meaning. |
(b) | Organize information from signed texts to indicate steps in a procedure or directions to follow. |
(c) | Examine causes and effects of decisions made by characters in fiction and non-fiction texts. |
(d) | Summarize the definitions, comparisons or examples used in a signed text to clarify intended meaning and support a position on an issue. |
(e) | Gather information on a topic from a variety of ASL sources (e.g., human, videos, media) and organize and summarize the information in writing. |
(f) | Attend to signed speeches with a variety of purposes (e.g., inspirational, political, factual) and summarize their intent in writing. |
(g) | Examine perspectives present in signed texts and share opinions with others. |
(h) | Interpret humour in ASL by identifying examples of puns and jokes and examining their construct and purpose, such as gentle criticism and audience involvement. |
