Explore Deaf culture in Canada by examining historical and contemporary elements of Deaf
culture and investigating the cultural and linguistic diversity of Deaf culture.
Indicators for this outcome
| (a) | Select and examine information about Deaf culture from authentic sources. |
| (b) | Participate in activities and experiences to develop understanding of Deaf culture. |
| (c) | Inquire into how society’s perceptions of Deaf culture have changed over time. |
| (d) | Explore the challenges Deaf people have faced as a result of discriminatory perspectives and non-inclusive services. |
| (e) | Assess ways others can advocate for people who are Deaf, deaf or heard of hearing. |
| (f) | Identify similarities and differences between students’ other languages and ASL. |
| (g) | Make connections between some elements of Deaf culture and student’s own culture by identifying and examining commonalities and differences, especially in regards to people of similar age who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing. |
