Apply knowledge of American Sign Language, in familiar situations and for a variety of purposes, to impart information, share emotions and personal perspectives, achieve objectives and for enjoyment.
Indicators for this outcome
(a) Exchange ideas and information using complete ASL sentences in short conversations on a range of familiar topics such as national events and issues or social life.
(b) Respond appropriately and attentively in conversations by asking questions to gain knowledge and clarify understanding.
(c) Relate a set of instructions with appropriate sequence, rules, conditions and imperatives.
(d) Express thoughts, ideas, opinions and feelings for specific purposes and audiences using signed text and visual media in guided situations.
(e) Narrate a personal experience, event or situation with supporting detail.
(f) Create stories with descriptive sentences and sequences of events about familiar contexts such as cultural traditions or hobbies.
(g) Conduct research based on personal inquiry into a topic related to familiar contexts such as national events and issues or professions and occupations.
(h) Present a factual report based on personal inquiry with a visual component that contributes to the effectiveness of the presentation.
(i) Contribute to group discussion by identifying problems and proposing solutions.
(j) Use ASL for aesthetic purposes and for personal enjoyment with emerging skill (e.g., express humour, perform skits or songs, create stories).
