Demonstrate, when producing oral and written texts, knowledge of Dakota language concepts including context-specific vocabulary, sentence structure and linguistic conventions
Indicators for this outcome
| (a) | Practise the unique sounds of the Dakota language (e.g., guttural and explosive) to build fluency. |
| (b) | Write combinations of multiple sentences using the Dakota alphabet. |
| (c) | Practise making nouns and verbs plural in the context of the land (e.g., geese are flying and rivers are flowing). |
| (d) | Conjugate present-tense verbs in first, second and third person plural (e.g., we are dancing, you are hunting and they are gathering). |
| (e) | Add prefixes and suffixes to root words to change their meaning. |
| (f) | Speak and write about common nouns (e.g., drum, “wac̀ipi” pow wow and tobacco) using the appropriate articles. |
| (g) | Practise using a variety of adjectives and adverbs when describing the land. |
| (h) | Use the interrogative form “he” to ask questions. |
