Refine and document full range of own creative process (e.g., idea generation, sketches, drafts, maquettes, reference work, source material, research, production, media exploration, critique, refinement) including completed works, providing evidence of critical inquiry.
Indicators for this outcome
(a) Connect with artists who create work for a variety of purposes to inquire about creative process.
(b) Critically analyze and compare own creative process to methods used by practicing artists in order to incorporate relevant aspects to own practice.
(c) Describe and experiment with the fluid, cyclical nature of the creative process.
(d)

Actively record own practice, experimentation and revision of works up to and including final versions demonstrating, for example:

  • preliminary rough drafts, written reflections, artist study
  • reasoning and motivations during process
  • risk-taking with mixed media, layering and current techniques for creating visual interest and nuanced meaning
  • critical responses to contemporary conceptual approaches in art making
  • analysis of strengths and weaknesses of own creative process
  • how feedback has been applied to elevate works included in presentation portfolio
  • documentation of selected aspects of own process through photographs.
(e) Demonstrate evidence of regular exploration and independent thinking through ongoing studio work.
(f) Evaluate current portfolio and/or sketchbook to assess strengths that can be built on and incorporated into future works.
(g) Prepare for portfolio submission by creating high quality, well composed, high resolution photographs of completed works.
(h) Edit, during post-production, digital images of own work to aid in presenting the clearest, most accurate representation of the work and ensure that images meet the requirements of selected digital submission web application.
