Rules for Life
Following the death of her mother, Izzie begins to live by her mother's clearcut rules for life. Life is generally good for Izzie because she has an amicable relationship with her father, has a kind and reliable boyfriend and is pleased that her brother has overcome his drug addiction. Circumstances, however, change for the worse when Izzie's father remarries and she has to share him with her pregnant stepmother. Also, Izzie becomes aware that her brother has traded drug addiction for alcoholism. Suddenly, Izzie needs more than just her mother's simple rules! It is a friend from the Seniors' Centre and her stepmother who eventually help Izzie to understand that families are about much more than just a biological relationship.

Apples and Oranges
This video is set in a classroom where students are engaged in an exercise about bullying, stereotypes and the harmful effects that language can have on people. The students create pictures that portray sensitive situations, such as a young girl who has two moms and two boys whose friendship comes to a halt when one boy learns that the other is gay. The students' representations and stories are brought to life through animation. The program dispels myths about gays and lesbians, challenges homophobia and focuses on respect and acceptance.
A teacher's guide is available.
