(a)

Examine roles that vocal jazz artists might have beyond being performers, and identify individuals who fit those particular roles (e.g., Bobby McFerrin, Phil Mattson, and Gene Puerling).

(b)

A number of jazz artists have First Nations or American Indian heritage (e.g., Mildred Bailey, Lena Horne, Joe Williams and Julia Keefe). Discuss possible reasons why this is not widley known and the effect that this heritage may have had on their music and lives.

(c)

Identify influential singers or players of the student's instrument, investigate why these performers are so influential and listen to their music. Give special attention to performers from Saskatchewan and Canada.

(d)

Discuss the influence of jazz on contemporary First Nations music.
