Lured by the work of a team of biologists, Benji becomes involved in the tracking of a female grizzly bear named Triple Seven. Named for a collar transmitter device, the wily bear helps the young boy come to terms with his loss. Alternating between the boy's and the bear's point of view, readers view the grizzlies' fight for survival and the protection of their cubs. Based on scientific knowledge, this novel presents a view of life on the tundra and the co-existence of its inhabitants.
